MāLAMA HAWAII

Hōkūleʻa is a performance-accurate full-scale replica of a waʻa kaulua, a Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe. Launched on 8 March 1975 by the Polynesian Voyaging Society, she is best known for her 1976 Hawaiʻi to Tahiti voyage performed with Polynesian navigation techniques, without modern navigational instruments.

HNC Cultural Advisor and DAWSON Project Manager, Derek "Kekaulike" Mar will be embarking on a 35 day voyage on the Hokulea as she sets off on her World Wide Voyage, Malama Honua.  He will be traveling from CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA to WALVIS BAY to ST HELENA to ASCENSION to ILHA FERNADO DE NORONNA to BRASIL. The longest route of this 35 day journey will be 23 days.
